Faculty of Arts Profile:

The Faculty of Arts is the first faculty founded in 1989 as a branch of the University of Benghazi. The Faculty contributed to enriching cultural and scientific life in the city. It has been providing the labor market with thousands of graduates in the different ten departments: Arabic, English, French, Sociology, History, Philosophy, Geography, Islamic studies, Media, and Libraries and Information. Since the foundation and up to the academic year 2021-2022, the faculty has celebrated about 30 graduating classes in different departments. In pursuance of its objectives, the faculty has organized six scientific conferences as follows:

1- The 5th Geographical Conference held by the Libya Geographyl Assembly, held in May 1998.

2- The 11th Conference of the Libyan Arab Historical Assembly held in April 2009.

3- Sirte Conference for Peace and National Unity, held in January 2013.

4- the 14th Geographical Conference of the Libyan Geography Assembly,held in October 2013.

5- The 1st Scientific Conference of the Department of Information, held in May 2018.

6- The 15th Geographical Conference of the Libyan Geography Assembly, held in December 2020. And today, 29 December 2022, the 7th conference of the Faculty of Arts on Climate Change in Libya... .

 

:Objectives of the Conference

:The conference aims to

- Highlighting the key role of Geography in developmental planning.

- Guiding researchers toward the significance of Geography in spatial development.

- Contributing to exploring natural and human resources in Libya and how to exploit them in sustainable development.

- Highlighting the importance of examining the geographical location to maintaining a balanced growth in human and natural resources.

- Underlining the key role of Geography in examining natural hazards and disasters, managing them and minimizing their effects on the population

Themes of the conference

The Natural and Environmental Theme

- The catalytic role of natural resources (surface water, ground water, minerals, energy sources, and the biosphere) in development.

- Climatic conditions and their impact on human activities.

- Development of the Libyan coast and exploitation of its marine resources.

- Geomorphology and its role in planning for spatial development.

- Environmental problems (their causes, methods of combating them and mitigating their effects).

Recommendations:

The conference presented 72 research papers and The participants concluded the following recommendations:

1- To highlight the prominent role of development planning in all its stages and types.

2- To prepare qualified staff to contribute to spatial development.

3- monitoring internal migration routes and re-direct them to the rural areas and villages.

4- To work on promoting the diversity of sources of national income and focusing on tourism and the development of related facilities.

5- To expand the use of modern technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) in the planning of development projects, for the ability to display, link and analyze, and thus make the best decision according to spatial data.

6- To encourages researchers and geographers to participate in all general planning areas, as well as holding seminars, conferences and workshops, and sponsoring government institutions.

7- To encourage field studies in geography departments by raising financial logistical support as well as security.

8- To shed light on the role of universities in the contributions to scientific documentaries.
